What is SELIOD®?

SELIOD® is a food supplement based on Iodine and L-Selenomethionine characterized by an innovative formulation in orodispersible tablets.

.

IODINE

is an essential trace element for thyroid gland function. Since it is incorporated into the structure of thyroid hormones, Iodine is essential to guarantee the synthesis of sufficient quantities of thyroid hormones and to prevent excessive thyroid enlargement (Nodules and/or Goiter).

L-SELENOMETHIONINE

is the organic form of Selenium, an essential micronutrient to maintain healthy thyroid function. The thyroid gland is characterized by a high tissue concentration of Selenium, being the organ with the highest amount of Selenium per gram of tissue, because it contains most of the Selenoproteins. Since it is incorporated into Selenoproteins, which have an important antioxidant activity, Selenium contributes to the antioxidant defense in the thyroid, by removing oxygen free radicals generated during the production of thyroid hormones. Moreover, being incorporated into Deiodinases, Selenium also plays an essential role in the metabolism of thyroid hormones, since it catalyzes the conversion of inactive thyroid hormone (T4-Thyroxine) into its biologically active form (T3-Triiodothyronine). Differently to the inorganic form of Selenium, L-Selenomethionine, has a 40% greater intestinal absorption and is actively incorporated into Selenioproteins, constituting an “active reserve” of Selenium readily available for the organism.
